Like any other industry, motorcycle trends ebb and flow. If 2018 is any indication we’re seeing a rise in popularity of all kinds of off-roading once again. Take a look back to the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s scramblers, flat track bikes and what we now call dual sports, enduros and adventure bikes, and you’ll see that more rugged bikes were massively popular, despite their infancy. Swells in the popularity of outdoor recreation has certainly helped boost overlanding. So where cruisers and custom choppers and high horsepower sport bikes once stole the hearts of the masses, there’s something about the utility and greater freedom of adventure that makes this year’s trend so popular.
That’s not to say the market was made up entirely of ADVs. This past year was full of great bikes built for both off-road and on. From an unbelievably high-horsepower hyperbike to a svelte Swedish electric new-comer to a slew of adventure bikes, these are 10 of the best bikes we rode in 2018.
